Ma critique du livre Babel publiée sur GoodReads recemment. Je la republie ici pour catalogage et me faciliter la vie. Vu que j’ai lu le livre en anglais, la revue est en anglais.

A book that intertwines fantasy, etymology, and the nuances of translation was sure to pique my interest. After hearing glowing reviews from a podcaster I respect, I decided to bring it along for our recent beach retreat. While I enjoyed the read, it ultimately fell short of my expectations. The first half was very promising, showcasing academic rigor and an intriguing magic system. However, these strengths couldn’t make up for the lack of plot depth and overly simplistic characters, which severely limited the exploration of the moral themes that dominated the second half. Consequently, the superficially treated themes and poorly represented 19th century left me disappointed.

A good beach read.
