Before the Coffee Gets Cold

Ma critique du livre Before the Coffee Gets Cold publiée sur GoodReads. Vu que j’ai lu le livre en anglais, la revue est en anglais.

The premise is neat: a Tokyo café where customers may revisit the past, provided a specific seat is free and they leave before their coffee cools. Toshikazu Kawaguchi wrings some atmosphere from the conceit, but not much else. The stories grow schematic, emotions are announced rather than discovered, and the final tale mistakes blunt sacrifice for profundity. Like the coffee it describes, the novel is pleasant while warm, but loses strength quickly once left standing.
