This is a novel about place, people and society’s expectations. While the synopsis raises interesting questions, the denouement is a let down.
It would have benefited from a tighter script, and a less privileged heroin / more flawed prince charming. The social dilemmas at the heart of the book would have had more opportunities to be explored.
3.5 stars, rounded up as it is a promising first and it brought back many memories of KL and Malaysian life.
